MULTITACTION DELIVERS IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES IN EXECUTIVE BRIEFING CENTERS
Is it time to transform your old, stale customer meeting? Take it from the back office to an Executive Briefing Center that enables an interactive experience.
Over the last few years, the trend to open office spaces has made Executive Briefing Centers more popular than ever before. First-generation Executive Briefing Centers were used more for presentations, but this is changing with increased adoption of interactive technology.
The latest EBCs are being used by leading brands to create 360 degree environments that immerse attendees in an experience. Interactive technology is a fundamental element of a branded environment, and is a top consideration when designing these spaces.
Create an Experience
Experiential marketing is a growing trend which involves marketing through experiences that engage customers and create an emotional connection.
The experience begins when visitors first arrive at the facility, and is carried throughout the event. Organizations that embrace experiential marketing for their Executive Briefing Centers can differentiate from their competitors and gain competitive advantage.
Make it Interactive
An interactive video wall will get your visitors literally out of their seats and up at the wall!
If visitors get involved and actively participate in the experience, it is much more memorable versus passively watching a PowerPoint presentation.
The MultiTaction wall is versatile enough that multiple visitors can use the wall at the same time, which makes it easier to share the experience, rather than waiting to take their turn.
Customization is Key
The real driver behind experiential marketing is customization, because you don’t want all your visitors to have the same experience. When a customer or prospect visits your office, it is an opportunity to produce a personalized experience that makes a lasting impression.
MultiTaction Makes it Easy to Create Customized Content
Say goodbye to expensive developers and costly professional services for content creation!
Say hello to MultiTaction’s unique web-based editor that makes live updates possible!
With MultiTaction software you can make immediate changes to displays in real-time. This makes it easy for the marketing department prepare customized rich media assets for engaging with clients.
“Other systems take a small army to operate, but MultiTaction is so easy that our marketing department can use it without special assistance from the IT department. Once we curate the content and put it in the right format, it takes about five minutes to create the codice cards. We try to keep it as simple as possible because our content changes on a daily basis. We don’t have an on-site developer to carry out any tasks, we don’t have that luxury, but the Showcase software is so easy that we don’t need one.” James Copello, Aruba Networks

UNMC IEXCEL TRANSFORMS HEALTH CARE EDUCATION
The Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL) is a bold, visionary initiative at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) designed to transform health care education
Through iEXCEL, learners acquire knowledge, and experience hands-on training in a wide range of realistic but simulated healthcare environments. Using a wide range of simulation technologies they can practise and become proficient in procedural and professional skills before encountering real-life patient care situations.
Opening early in 2018, a new five-level, 192,000 sq ft building, the Davis Global Center, will become home to iEXCEL.
AVI-SPL was selected as the technology integrator for the project. In the world of health care education, AVI-SPL is a leader in installing emerging simulation technologies from advanced human patient simulators and task trainers, to augmented, virtual and immersive reality, as well as the MultiTaction iWall.
We spoke with Bill Schmidt, AVI-SPL Sales Director and Visualization Advocate, and Dr. Pamela Boyers, Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Simulation, iEXCEL.
The challenge
The way healthcare education is currently delivered has remained largely unchanged for over a century. Most health care facilities around the U.S. still take a predominantly didactic approach with students learning in traditional classroom settings. This involves listening to lectures, taking notes, and studying for the exam. This is not how the millennials generation prefers to learn and there is growing realization that the traditional approach does not sufficiently prepare students to function at a high level in busy and stressful healthcare environments immediately upon graduation.
While the overall mission of iEXCEL has everything to do with enhancing the outcomes of training and patient care, an important aspect of the vision is to provide digital learning experiences that encourage
students to interact, engage in critical thinking and be guided through competency based learning experiences.
“We are changing the paradigm of how we teach,” says Boyers, “When providing care it is necessary to be very active and engaged with patients and their families. Beyond conducting procedural skills, you must have excellent critical thinking and communication skills and work well in teams. It is very hard to learn this range of skills from books, lectures and PowerPoints.”
WE WANT TO PROVIDE HIGHLY ENGAGING LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT BETTER SUIT THE WAY THE LEARNERS OF TODAY ABSORB AND APPLY INFORMATION.
The MultiTaction iWall Helps Improve Outcomes
The MultiTaction iWall is very intuitive and a great first introduction to visualization and interacting with images. It literally gets students out of their seats and working together on projects.
The iWall is used to create a very realistic, hands-on, interactive, scenarios for students to learn and practise. It offers more than learning the “how-to” of a procedure. Up at the iWall, students learn how to relate and think through problems, and practise the critical thinking skills they will need under fire.
MULTITACTION IS AN IMPORTANT STEP IN THE JOURNEY INTO ADOPTING VISUALIZATION AND VIRTUAL REALITY.
While it is certainly important to understand theory, the iWall allows learners to put the theory into practice.
“Now we are in a position where virtually anything that can happen to a patient in the healthcare system can be realistically and accurately simulated.” Schmidt reports. Healthcare providers do not feel comfortable working for the first time on a real patient. They want to feel competent as well as develop confidence by using simulation before working in the real world of medicine.

MULTITACTION AND AVI-SPL REVOLUTIONIZE HEALTH CARE EDUCATION
Modeling and Simulation Technologies are Reshaping Health Care Education
In the world of health care education, AVI-SPL is a leader in installing emerging simulation technologies, from advanced human patient simulators and task trainers, to augmented, virtual and immersive reality, as well as the MultiTaction iWall.
AVI-SPL specializes in designing health care education environments where learners acquire knowledge, and experience hands-on training in a wide range of realistic but simulated healthcare environments. Under this paradigm, students practise using a wide range of simulation technologies until they become proficient in procedural and professional skills before encountering real-life patient care situations.
AVI-SPL’s mission to accelerate the adoption of modeling and simulation technology will reshape the way in which medical education is delivered.
The iWall is used to create a very realistic, hands-on, interactive, scenarios for students to learn and practise. It offers more than learning the “how-to” of a procedure. Up at the iWall, students learn how to relate and think through problems, and practise the critical thinking skills they will need under fire.
We spoke with Bill Schmidt, AVI-SPL Sales Director and Visualization Advocate.
The iWall is a Powerful Tool for Remote Learning
The MultiTaction solution has low bandwidth requirements with ultra-low latency, even replicating high-resolution video in perfect synchronisation with no loss of image quality. This makes the iWall a powerful tool for collaboration and remote learning.
AVI-SPL and MultiTaction recently partnered at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, (UNMC), iEXCEL center. Within the state of Nebraska, there are many rural and underserved communities, and iEXCEL desires to serve these remote communities and offer the same standard of training and technology across the state.
UNMC satellite campuses cannot count on a lot of bandwidth being available on demand, because the ISP providers in some areas of Nebraska are not always robust. This meant that AVI-SPL had to find a low bandwidth solution for collaborating across distance.
“The MultiTaction iWall is the ideal solution when bandwidth is a concern,” says Schmidt.
The first remote learning project is complete with the installation of an iWall 450 miles West of Omaha, in Scottsbluff. Nurses and Dental Hygienists at the Scottsbluff satellite campus can now connect in real time with Omaha via the iWall collaboration software, MT Canvus and Connect
There is a server at each iWall location, and a third server to run Canvus Connect. Schmidt explains, “The bandwidth required for one iWall running Canvus to talk to a second iWall running Canvus is very low, yet it provides a great deal of functionality.”
iEXCEL plans for iWalls at several other sites in the State of Nebraska, with upcoming installations planned for Lincoln, and then Kearney. “With this network of iWalls, the students and faculty will be able to collaborate easily and in real-time across distance,” says Schmidt.
THE MULTITACTION SOLUTION HAS LOW BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENTS WITH ULTRA-LOW LATENCY, EVEN REPLICATING HIGH RESOLUTION VIDEO IN PERFECT SYNCHRONISATION WITH NO LOSS OF IMAGE QUALITY.
MultiTaction solutions enable higher education institutions to change the paradigm of how they teach. The iWall creates an interactive classroom experience that better suits the way that learners of today absorb information. For health care education, the iWall provides a safe environment where students
can learn without fear of harming a patient, and practise until they are ready to take excellent care of a patient.

Best Video Wall System: MultiTaction Hybrid Wall
By: Tommi Ilmonen, founder, Chief Operating Officer
Honestly, I was not expecting this ISE 2018 award by rAVe. Integrated Systems Europe – ISE – is a huge trade show with tons of video walls, with LEDs, LCD and projectors, across 15 halls. I am proud of our product, but I was not expecting to edge past Samsung, LG or the 50 Chinese LED video wall manufacturers in this category.
What makes MultiTaction different? Why did the two iWalls at our booth with MT555UTB multi-touch displays comprise the “the Best Video Wall System”?
When it comes to raw image quality, you cannot beat the giants: LG, Samsung, Barco, Christie etc. have fantastic products (I do envy some of their technical solutions). This is great, but it is not enough.
Where MultiTaction iWall comes first, is the combination of beautiful interaction and powerful applications with the display technology.
Beautiful interaction
Interaction can be beautiful in many ways. There is different beauty in talking with people, making sketches on paper, walking on sand, touching an oak table. Our job is to make beautiful touch interaction with a giant video wall, a tablet or anything in between.
How does it feel?
For the following exercise you need: A table (preferably wooden), both of your hands, 30 seconds of time, a small object (pen, mouse, lipstick etc.) and mental presence.
This is a slow exercise, do not rush it.
Put two fingertips from your left hand gently on the table. Feel the contact and count slowly to five. Know that you have the world in your fingertips, the table, the earth, the stars, the universe. Move your hand to the left and back and feel the contact with the world. It moves with your touch. Put the remaining three fingers on the table. Spread your fingers out. Pull them back in. The world expands and contracts with your movements. Put the fingertips of your right hand on the table. Move both hands together, in slow waves. Feel the world move with your hands. Take the small object into one hand. Feel its surface, shape, texture. Rotate it with your fingers. Feel the movement of your fingers, of your whole body as you do the minute movements. Feel the universe around you. Enjoy.
When you use our display wall, it is our job to make this magic happen. I know we succeed when people touch the display for the first time, move some object effortlessly, get the surprise from how immediate and powerful it is, and they have the sincerest smile. It did take years of hardware design, computer vision, touch tracking algorithms and UX/graphics programming to make it happen, but it is worth it.
Powerful applications
When you have a job to be done, you start looking for the tool. In our scope, tool is a combination of displays and software running on those displays. Our own displays (the SW runs on most touch displays) are objectively very capable: They can track fingers and objects with great speed and without hitting performance bottle-necks.
Equally (or more) important are the applications running on those displays. At ISE we had two applications, targeted at two very common needs that companies have. The first one is MT Canvus – a multi-tool for meeting rooms. It can be used for presentations, strategic planning, situational awareness, education – anything where a shared digital canvas is needed to create and store knowledge. The second one is MT Showcase which combines a web-based CMS/editor with a multi-touch player application. It is a tool for creating interactive presentations for signage, visitor centers and museums.
MT Canvus
MT Showcase
Both of these applications are powerful. One side of powerful is that they have the bells and whistles that the job requires. Another side is raw performance, being able to handle tens of videos, tons of photos, web browsers and still keep up with our promise of fluent, beautiful interaction at enormous resolutions. Yet another side is that the system gives power to the user, you feel that you have world at your fingertips.
Epilogue
I was planning to write a simple “we won this award” announcement, but it got well out of control. I hope you enjoyed it. See you next time at one of our events, showrooms or a trade show.

15 Ways to Choose a Touchwall
Introduction
When you are building a touch videowall or table, there are a lot of options out there. Some of these look almost identical (because they are), while some stand out in one way or another. A badly designed touchwall is tedious to use and probably won’t satisfy the original objectives.
When you are planning to build a touch wall, there are many things to keep in mind. In fact, the list of important parameters is surprisingly long, which is why we made this list.
Not all of these are important for all cases, so the weighting between them will vary, depending on what you need.
Touch
By now, almost all phones have touchscreens, most of them really good. In the touchwalls, there is much more variation in the quality of touch.
For touch, quality translates to various technical parameters and we are ready to pick up the first 4 parameters.
- Latency. Lower latency makes the interaction more immediate and natural. Note that many technologies do not scale very well – when the size goes up, their performance drops.
- Frame rate. This sounds similar to latency, but it is different. With a high tracking frame rate, you get smoother interaction, which is a huge benefit.
- Accuracy. If the touch tracking is inaccurate, users cannot hit objects reliably. The last thing you want is people getting frustrated because the touchscreen cannot determine the touch points.
- Feeling. Front glass with high friction will discourage users from swiping objects in the screen. Different front glass treatments can reduce the friction, making the usage more acceptable. Another important aspect is the temperature of the display. A hot display begs to be not touched.
Some displays (especially IR frames) trade latency for accuracy, so you can get either good accuracy, or low latency, but not both at the same time.
Looks
The image quality of touchscreens varies enormously. Some technologies have a tendency to make the image quality worse. This is true for many projective capacitive displays.
We are ready for the next 4 parameters.
- Resolution. Touchscreens are meant to be used from arms length. If you invite people to view them the resolution must be high enough to show all relevant details of the content.
- Contrast. This is a stumbling block for many touchscreens, especially the ones that rely on video projectors or touch foils. With low contrast, even a small amount of ambient light can hide details or colors.
- Brightness. There just needs to be enough of it. For the brightest indoor installations, 700nits is recommended, but usually 300-400 nits is enough.
- Seams. The smaller the seams, the better. Seams are especially important if there is a separate audience far from the display, but their significance is smaller for people who actually touch the screens.
Modularity / flexibility
Large walls are always composed of smaller modules. A wall with cheap modules can be very expensive if you cannot mount and unmount them easily, or if maintenance is expensive.
Can you create the shapes that you want from the modules and how are the modules mounted, maintained and how reliable they are.
The next 6 parameters.
- Can you make a curved touch wall? Curved walls are very useful, if you need to have a view of the whole wall. Surprisingly many touch systems fail if you want to create a curved wall.
- Can the modules be put in an angle? This is not for everybody, but with asymmetric/angled installations and the right content one can achieve dramatic effects.
- Mounting accuracy/sturdiness. Poor mounting can increase seams and make the whole installation look unprofessional. The best displays have well thought-out mounting systems, that make the whole wall smooth.
- Sturdiness is often overlooked, by people used to non-touch screens. If you push the screen, it should not wobble or vibrate. Still, many mounts exhibit this kind of weakness.
- Power and temperature. When making a large wall, the power consumption and heat generation can be an unpleasant surprise. Make sure that the displays have remote control for power-save mode.
- Maintenance. Difficult maintenance means more downtime and costs. If the maintenance can be done on-site, this reduces the maintenance burden dramatically.
Cost
Money always makes a difference but cost is not the be all and end all.
- Value is more important than the cost. If the wall comes with easy-to-use software that users enjoy interacting with, then the touchwall will be in constant use for many years – the value, or return-on-investment case, is considerable.

Announcing MultiTaction XNB Display
Today, MultiTaction, a Leading Provider of Advanced Visualization and Collaboration Solutions, Announces the World’s Best High- Performance Multitouch Display.
This is MT556XNB, the new standard for interactive video walls.
HELSINKI, Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — “I am truly excited to announce this new eXtremely Narrow Bezel (XNB) 55″ display,” said Paul Greenfield, Chairman, MultiTaction. “Our typical customers are now deploying MultiTaction displays, with our collaboration and presentation software, in large iWall configurations that are used for many hours a day. In these customer-facing environments, XNB leads the field with its optically-bonded Corning Gorilla glass and anti-glare treatment. The contrast, especially in high ambient light situations is stunning with better image clarity and brightness. We are using a new generation of LEDs that give much higher efficiency, better color uniformity and minimum brightness fall-off in the edges.”
The MultiTaction XNB display features a 1.9mm bezel, brightness of 700 nits and an anti-glare treatment that reduces friction between the glass and the fingers – which means fingers don’t “stick” to the glass. It is also operating at a lower temperature, which makes it much more comfortable to use over extended periods of time. The ultra-responsive multi touch experience makes the user feel like they are only touching the content not technology. Additionally, XNB’s intelligent multi touch surface can respond to fingers, hands, infrared pens or 2D codes for unique interactivity.

MultiTaction integration partners will also find that the mounting design of the XNB display gives them greater opportunity for the low-noise, low-heat designs that are typically being specified for elaborate Customer Engagement centers – e.g. XNB can be mounted flush against a wall. Also, because of the low power requirements, a greater number of XNBs can be connected to the same power phase. The unlimited multi touch points per display and unlimited stacking provides a solution that AV integrators can scale to any client requirement.

About MultiTaction
Our MT Canvus collaboration software makes it possible for remote users to share, manipulate, draw and input information in real-time wherever they are based. MT Canvus operates on our own advanced touch screens but also works on many other hardware platforms including the Surface Hub from Microsoft. Our customers use MT Canvus to facilitate connected meetings across multiple locations with users interacting directly with advanced touch screens – all with minimum latency.
Our MT Showcase presentation software has been designed specifically to ‘show off’ great content but also to make exploring and discovering that content super easy. Some materials are aimed at clients, some are aimed at employees to educate or guide and some are simply designed to delight. What all of these scenarios have in common, is the need for someone to first discover the material and then engage with it to get the anticipated experience. There are two parts to the solution – the Showcase player and the Showcase Editor. The editor is where the real work takes place as you drag and drop your media content into the presentation structure that you have defined for your showcase.
We also design and build the most responsive touch technology in the industry. Our 55” touch screen ‘MT cells’ can pick up and track an unlimited number of fingers, hands, objects, cards or pens at any one time. Our iWall provides an unparalleled user experience with a unique hardware design means which that we are able to deliver capabilities that cannot be found in other forms of multi touch technology.
Our Headquarters and R&D facility are located in Helsinki, where our Company was founded out of Helsinki University. We have offices in London, Singapore, New York, Chicago and Mountain View supporting over 700 customer installations in over 40 countries.
